Praying for the World Next Door

Jesus’ well-known saying has a much-forgotten application.

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8).

We are to share God’s love with people just like us (Jerusalem and Judea), with those who believe but practice differently (Samaria) and with those whose skin color, religious background, ideas, and lifestyle seem opposite (end of the earth) from ours!

Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, Jews, the secular-minded, and New Agers now are all around us, bringing the mission field as close as the nearest Wal-Mart or park.

Jesus invites us to turn our prayers for revival and reformation into a focused plea for the Holy Spirit who will make it possible for this multitude to each hear in his or her own language just as at Pentecost.

Enjoy learning more about these unique people and their beliefs as you pray for them to know God. He has promised that people from all nations will bring their glory and honor into the New Jerusalem (Revelation 21).

“We should be able to see in the multiplying opportunities to reach many foreigners in America a divinely appointed means of rapidly extending the third angel’s message into all the nations of earth” (Evangelism 570).
